Episode 81

A Chance for A Miracle

A door-to-door salesman may go for hours, days or weeks without making a sale. With every door he knocks, he knows that factually, it’s very unlikely for him to close a deal – perhaps less than 1%.

However, the best salespeople will knock, believing in their hearts that this customer will indeed benefit from and desire the product, and they will buy. So that salesperson walks and talks with confidence. It only takes a small percentage of customers to buy to justify the belief.

A woman of faith spends her whole life believing in miracles, and out of thousands of days lived, she only sees a miracle on one day. That is enough to justify the belief.

A man meditates every day for a year, and every day but one his mind is noisy. On that one exceptional day, he sees some glimpse of peace, seeing something that might transform him forever, that will surely justify a year of trying.

Welcome everybody, glad you could make it.

You coukd be anywhere in the world today but you’re here with me and I appreciate it.

The title of today’s talk is a chance for a miracle. This is something that bubbled up during my mediation just now.

I was thinking about how I used to knock on doors for a living and I was selling phone plans and electricity plans and we would talk to about 60 people in the day, knock on about 80 doors, maybe 10 presentations and maybe make 1-3 sales so it’s interesting because you knock on a door and literally you don’t know if someone is going to be home.

If you’re home you don’t know if they’re going to like you or be interested in the product. And you don’t know if they’re gonna let you make a presentation and if they’re even going to be interested in that presentation. And you don’t know if you’re going to make a sale.

Actually the likelihood is that they won’t because you only have this 2 percent chance of actually making a sale if you are a good salesman.

What a good salesman does is every door they knock on they work themselves up into believing that something good is going to happen, that they’re going to have a positive interaction and actually sell something.

Likewise this works for a lot of things. Maybe you sit down to meditation and maybe just a basic level of 15 minutes a day but you keep reasonably consistent and you do it almost every day over a whole year.

It’s not every day your mediation will be something successful in a sense.

In a sense there is no success or failure in meditation.

But lets just say for the purpose of this podcast that the success is getting a glimpse of peace, some profound peace more profound than you’ve ever experienced.

If you do this for an entire year dutifully almost every day and it pays off. Maybe just once that whole year you get a glimpse of this profound peace and you say “Oh, I did not know it could be like that, things are a bit different from what I thought.”

Perhaps after that every experience in your life is a bit colored by that because you know things are a little bit different than you thought.

Likewise lets say you make a plan for creating the conducive conditions to happiness in your life. And you enact it over the course of a year.

Maybe most days it doesn’t work, maybe some days it does work. Maybe just one or 2 days a year you get a glimpse of the happiness and you say “Oh, I guess things are a little different than I thought.”

In this definition, that’s a success.

I also like to say, I guess this is a little further out, but what if a person was to believe in Miracles their entire life. If they were to put their faith in Jesus Christ or some other vision of divinity just once in their life, they witness a true miracle and their belief of their entire life is validated by that one event.

These events start to string a thread anomalous events together we start to find they are not anomoalies, they are the rule.

Theyre actually a revelation of a purer deeper truth.

If you seek peace, seek happiness, seek miracles you just might find them

So take a chance, a chance for a miracle.

So thanks for listening, thanks for taking chances for miracles and seeking peace and happiness because to him who knocks doors opened. To him who seeks finds…that’s what I was trying to say, I think you know where I’m going with that.

Thank you for taking the time to seek in whatever small day, have a wonderful day, a miraculous day and I will talk to you soon.
