Episode 93

Till You Feel It

When saying a prayer or writing our goals, thinking about what is important in our lives, we can take those moments to feel a little more about what we’re doing.

Saying grace, we can think about all of the blessings that are in our lives, until we really feel the gratitude that we’re trying to express.

Writing our goals, we can take a moment to think about the purpose of them – why they really are important to us, why they move us physically and emotionally.

In the moment that we feel it… we know it’s real.

Welcome travelers and wanderers who are not lost, welcome to you.

The title of today’s talk is till you feel it.

So I was sitting down for breakfast, made myself a smoothie bowl which I’m not sure if they are cranberries or blueberries because they have the same name in Spanish, called arándanos.

I made the smoothie bowl and put some peanut butter in my smoothie. Spread the cereal and put some arándanos. on top just to make it look extra delightful.

I sat down and said grace and I just though “Thank you”

Thank you is the simplest, easiest and most eloquent prayer that you can say.

I said “Thank you, thank you for this meal of course and the birds chirping outside the window.”

I always go back to the birds chirping because it’s a universal thing. It symbolizes freedom because even if you;re in a prison yard a lot of the time you will still hear the birds chirping.

It’s always there to remind you there are birds chirping, flying. Something is there out enjoying the wide blue yonder and I thought about that freedom.

There have been times in my life where I have not been free and I cannot walk the streets.

Now I have that and I can make my own breakfast and enjoy it and a couple of tears started rolling down my cheeks and I thought when I get to that level of saying grace, that’s when it really hits the spot. That’s when my cup flows over.

I try to do that when I pray sometimes, I’m not always that conscious but I try to do that.

This is a method of goal setting I think it originates with Tony Robbins. He used to call it the OPA method stands for outcome purpose and action. Later he changed it Result Purpose Massive Action. Changed it to massive action because the words we use effect how we go about our lives.

So Tony said “I don’t want to just take action. I want to take massive action. Like what is the action that I can take that is transformative that will make the world a better place just by me doing it.”

What are those kinds of things? Especially with the purpose just looking at my OPA booklet here, I like to write out purposes. If I have a task I want to do, say I want to meditate 3 or 4 times a day. The outcome is something like peace or abiding in abundant silence and the purpose is, what is the purpose?

Let me see what I wrote here, for example, feeling alive and enjoying every moment. That’s the purpose for me meditating.

For joy, peace, happiness, inspiration, inner space, exploration. That’s the kind of thing that gets me motivated to actually do the thing I want to do because that is the moment when I feel it.

Sometimes I might just write one word for the purpose and be like hang on am I just going through the motions here? I don’t just want to go through the motions, I want to make it real right now with my emotions.

In this case emotions are greater than motions, so I keep writing down purposes until I get one that stirs something in my belly. And that is when the real power starts to come in.

Before I write my goals every day, I also like to write my vision. Where am I moving with this sort of stuff, with the podcast, with meditation? How does it all tie in? How do a lot of the things tie in?

Yesterday I wrote a vision “I am giving this sweet vulnerable part of myself to millions of people for free, giving people the space to transform their lives and spirits, helping them to feel wonderful and be greater.”

That’s the kind of thing that makes me feel a little something inside. Here’s the thing as well, spontaneity. If you’ve ever read the book Impro by Keith Johnson I highly recommend it about spontaneity and the creative message.

Part of the message of the book is spontaneous is real and moving. So when I write these visions and when I write these purposes, basically I never write the same thing twice. There’s wiggle room but every time I do it.

I say What moves me today? What is my purpose, today?

It’s something that is evolving over time and it’s also something that moves me every day. Every day I dig deep and try to find it.

Till I feel it.

Thank you for listening, thank you for looking deep inside to see what moves you and pulls you out of your seat to enjoy life, to be enthusiastic towards life, be passionate, compassionate and ecstatic because we have that wonderful opportunity.
