Move Your Body

Sometimes our emotions can be difficult to release from our bodies, and it helps to move physically. If you’re angry, it can help to punch a punching bag or even a pillow, to do some jumping jacks or run on the spot.

Doing unusual movements such as in hatha yoga or ecstatic dance, we might even find that some emotions that have been dormant for a long time are suddenly let out, and we might feel pure.

If we anticipate an argument, or there’s some gripe we want to express to someone, we can first get it out physically. Then when we feel calm, we can say what we have to say without the baggage of that anger or frustration, delivering a high quality “no”.

Welcome beautiful thinkers.

I was thinking about the interview I did the other day with Victoria Abdelnur and she mentioned the Isha Judd method and how important it is to move your body.

She says if she feels angry or frustrated she will find the time and space to run on the spot or punch a punching bag and you can get out that energy.

A lot of the time when you have one of these sticky moods or something going on in your body, some frustration or knot in your stomach you can get up and jump around.

Or I was thinking about I mentioned a few weeks ago when I went to this ecstatic dance party and there was a feeling of doubt in my belly and I was bouncing around and moving my body in ways that perhaps I hadn’t moved in a long time or perhaps I’ve never moved my body like that.

And it sort of helps to dislodge these emotions or move them into a different place in my body so we can get those blockages free.

Victoria says after you do that maybe you need to say something or communicate something to somebody, that’s when you can do it when your body is in this clean slate mode after you worked out all the knots and kinks. Thats when you can really express yourself without worrying that you will accidentally be passive aggressive or something like that.

So you can express yourself cleanly.

Or you can meditate or whatever it is. So when I go to yoga and we go through all these exercise and I’m still learning a bit I guess so it can be difficult to push my body to the limit or not fully embrace the strange feeling still feeling quite uncomfortable.

Eventually you start to feel really good then we sit and meditate for about 10-30 minutes to enjoy the body after you move it in these specific ways.

Maybe if you feel depressed and anxious and you don’t know how to kick it and let go then maybe you can jump up and dance, do yoga, hit a punching bag or run on the spot and get a way to get the energy moving in a healthy way and release it in a way that is beneficial for you.

I even noticed the other day I kinda haven’t gotten back into my full exercise routine after I returned from Acapulco and Friday I went to the gym, my friends gym and started lifting weights and everything.

When I finished I was like Wow! I forgot that this could feel that good, to feel relaxed. Before I was kind of antsy without really knowing why I couldn’t quite sit still.

But then releasing that, all that energy, breathing deeply to get the oxygen into those muscles and pump it.

It feels good to move your body.
