A Nice Touch

In Latin America, it’s common to hear people talk about “un buen detalle” or a nice touch. Or as we say in English – unfortunately, sometimes disparagingly – “It’s the thought that counts.”

A small gesture can make all the difference, to show someone that we care, that we’re thinking about them, that we want them to be well and share in our joys.

According to Professor Laurie Santos, director of the Science of Well-Being course at Yale, noticing when people are in need and helping them can make a huge difference in our levels of happiness in the long term.

Welcome beautiful thinkers, this is how your life is already wonderful.

I’d like to talk about a nice touch. This is something lovely that we can all do and include in our lives hopefully as a habit.

I would like to develop this habit.

In Mexico and other parts of Latin America they have this saying adsasdas or they say Un buen detalle or they say of a person Que detallista.

What a detailer. What attention to detail, what a nice touch, what a fine detail.

Especially when its a gift or something especially considerate. A small gift like when you bring a neighbor excess food. You made too much, so much abundance you want to share it.

My friend Chris asked me yesterday “where is the best place to store extra food?” And I was like “I dunno where would that be? In the basement?”

She said “No in the bellies of your neighbors.”

So there’s so many opportunities we have to build good will. Random acts of kindness tend to be according to Professor Lori Santos, teacher at Yale University and conductor of the course the science of wellbeing.

These acts of kindness tend to be the best way to boost wellbeing. When we notice an opportunity to give something out of nowhere or out of the kindness of our hearts, we can do that.

The look on the face of the recipient can be our reward. Or the reward is the action itself. Taking the action to be generous. Giving a nice touch.

There used to be an ad campaign in Australia about Rose’s Chocolates and the song Thank you very much. People would go around in the ad thanking someone, like a coach or teacher or anyone that had given them a little extra, they would give them this box of Rose’s chocolates. Not necessarily something you want to give to someone.

Unfortunately the quality of these chocolates has deteriorated over the years thanks to shrinkflation however the reason this ad was so memorable and popular was because we can all relate to that. We want to thank someone for their efforts and give a token of our appreciation even tho the token can never measure up to the depth of appreciation we feel.

People will understand when we give that, when we give a nice touch.

Sometimes we need a little help to understand the assumptions we are using in life, how to change and use that creativity to transform those beliefs into something new and come up with a plan to take action on our new beliefs so they become a part of us.

I can help with that, I am offering my coaching services, beautifulpodcast.com is the website and beautiful2021 is the coupon code to save 50 percent on your first session.
