Episode 114
A Moment Just to Feel
Sitting in a café and looking around, watching people out of the window, feeling the chair under your seat… You might just feel what is happening, just for a moment. There’s nothing special about this moment, there’s no thrill of victory or agony of defeat. It’s just a little simple moment to enjoy.
You notice the cars pass, feel the coolness or warmth of the air, touch the table and acknowledge its solidity. Nothing of consequence is happening, nothing particularly good and nothing bad. This is a moment to savour the peace, to be happy.

Let’s talk about taking a moment just to feel so a few days ago I left my house here and went to a little cafe nearby where I normally go for lunch.
And I sat down and looking out of the doorway into the street, seeing the people pass by. I’m seated trying to be present with my posture and I thought “This moment is just really great!”
And there’s nothing in particular happening, nothing special. Not an amazing moment in my life, not a great moment of success or failure.
There’s nothing particular in this moment that is meaningful in a narrative sense. Like this moment wont propel my life forward or hold me back. There’s no challenge to overcome.
In a sense, if this is a scene in the movie nothing is happening. All I am doing is just observing what is going on, taking a moment to just enjoy.
I’ve said before we can get gratitude for things by noticing the opposites.
So for example in this moment in the cafe I can stop and say there’s no violence around me. No one is attacking anyone else and no one is even angry at the staff.
Once I notice that I can feel grateful for that and it is a doorway to feeling grateful for peace, which is a much more subtle thing.
Violence is something very noticable, non-violence is something a little more subtle and peace is a little more subtle again.
Can you notice the peace in this moment? Can you savor the peace? Can you enjoy the peace, the fact that things are good in a way! Just the fact of not having anybody in your face.
It’s hard for me to describe the effect of peace beause it is so subtle, I don’t have words yet.
There’s so many times in our day where we can just take a second to look around and say “Hey, this is pretty good.” Savor the moment.
Sometimes when I’m walking around Guadalajara I just look around at the old buildings, Spanish colonial buildings. Some build in the 70s maybe not even well maintained but there’s something charming about it all.
There’s something magical about the place where I live, the people that inhabit it. The underlying current of magic, the underlying current of creativity that comes from these people and the warmth of the people which is not always extremely obvious.
But it’s there, if we just take a moment. If we just take a moment, we can notice it just for a moment. A moment just to feel. Feel the air on our face, the warmth or the coolness on our feet. The feet against the floor, the butt against the chair.
The tension in our face that might go away the moment we notice it. Let’s take a moment, just to feel.
Thank you for listening, thank you for taking a few moments today to feel exactly what you are feeling, I’ll talk to you soon.
