Another Dawn
In the song Esta Vida by Mexican band Tres De Copas, the group tell us what it’s like to see the sun peek through the window and be filled by the view of a beautiful dawn.
Then in the third verse, they tell us again how good it feels to receive a hug from the early morning and again be filled by the vista of a beautiful sunrise.
To some, this might seem like repetitious, lazy songwriting, but perhaps it’s an important reminder – just because something happens every day doesn’t necessarily make it any less special. Every sunrise and every moment is there for us to enjoy.

I was just thinking about the song Esta Vida by Tres de Copas. Wonderful beautiful Mexican song. And I was thinking about in the lyrics when he says another dawn.
This is something important. I love this song for so many reasons, one thing is how the lyrics don’t hide anything. It even talks about death a few times in the song and including that the personage of the song is expressing how much he loves life.
This is a beautiful song. Well I was thinking about in particular in the first verse it goes like this:
Me gusta el olor que tiene la mañana
Me gusta el primer traguito de cafe
Sentir cuando el sol se asoma en mi ventana
Y me llena la mirada de un hermoso amanecer
Then in the third verse after the first chorus he goes again:
Me gusta escuchar la voz de una guitarra
Brindar por aquel amigo que se fue
Sentir el abrazo de la madrugada
Y llenarme la mirada de otro hermoso amanecer
So what this means, some of you don’t speak Spanish but maybe this will inspire you to learn.
I like the smell of the morning. The first sip of coffee. To feel when the sun peeks through my window and the view fills me with the view of another beautiful dawn.
Then again in the third verse, I like to hear the voice of a guitar to raise a toast to that friend who is no longer with us. To feel the hug of the early morning. And fill myself with the view of another beautiful dawn.
So I was thinking about this first first, I fill myself with the view of the beautiful dawn. And again in the third verse I fill myself with the view of a beautiful dawn and I think a critic might look at this and say its lazy songwriting repeating the same thing in these verses but I think this is very deliberate.
I think its pointing out something wonderful about life that yes we can have these experiences again and again in fact if we get up to watch the sunrise we can see it every day. Likewise with the sunset. The fact that we can experience them every day doesn’t make them any less wonderful, any less beautiful.
In fact it might even deepen the beauty the more the sun rises and sunsets we see, the more clouds in the sky, the more wind rustling through the leaves. Perhaps every time it gets deeper.
I saw the other day on Aubrey Marcus’ instagram it came up and he said: The ego sees value in that which is scarce. Money, physical beauty, fame. The soul sees value in what is abundant, presence, experience, love. Now this is great, I do think this is a kind of false dichotomy. I am not sure if money is scarce, maybe it’s as abundant as we want it to be.
Physical beauty is everywhere. Fame or recognition of others, we can generate that in any moment within ourselves. These things when we dig a little deeper we find they are abundant as well.
Likewise with every sunrise, sunset, cloud in the sky and star in the sky we find that beauty all around us. These things so abundant and so radiant for us to receive them to be filled with another dawn.
