Bring People Together

According to the idea of Dunbar’s number, we all have about 150 people that we know reasonably well – knowing their name, their profession, their interests.

That means there are more than 11,000 combinations of friends we could bring together – more with every acquaintance that we meet.

When we say to someone “Maybe you’d like to meet my friend Beto; he’s also interested in rock climbing,” many times they will not act on it. But occasionally they will, and form a lasting friendship.

They might even remember that it was you who helped them meet. Or perhaps they will just enjoy each others’ company.

Welcome beautiful thinkers, this is how your life is already wonderful.

I’d like to talk to you about bringing people together.

The other day I was sitting in my friends cafe and the neighbors daughter came in and she was talking about what she wanted to do for a living. Maybe astronomy, maybe aviation and I said to her later, Maybe I can bring my friend in here and he can have a chat with my friend who can tell you what it was like, he was in the US Air Force.

And she was like Wow, really? Quite Amazed and I invited Anthony, Anthony Faire a guest from the podcast and he came and had a chat and told her all about his former life when he was in the armed services and what its like to learn to fly and the experience of freedom in the air which is pretty amazing.

I think that’s beautiful and I thank Anthony dearly for sharing his time because its amazing how especially in this case you can share your years of experience, things you might not actually even think of today and open a young persons mind.

For me it was very rewarding, I thought there’s an extra level of consideration when thinking of the person in front of me and noticing and observing them.

Thinking about what they are saying and how that relates to other people. Thinking how can I bring two people together in a way that might be beneficial for both of them?

This is a key skill in networking, not gonna claim I am a master networker. Its amazing what we can do.

I have tried many times to get people together of the same interest or to try to connect a buyer with a seller, many kinds of things.

Or like a friend says they are going to London and I have a friend who lives in London, now you have a friend in London. Or whatever it is.

Normally people don’t accept those offers but occasionally they do and occasionally it goes off really well and people make friends and feel more comfortable or people enrich their lives because of something you did, this simple connection of thinking how people would benefit and have a certain synergy together.

We all have this power. According to the Mr. Dunbar number we know about 150 people so there are probably a 150 people…. I don’t know how many connections that it is ends up being an exponential number of potential connection.

Within that number of potential connections there are probably some that have experienced that kind of synergy, a massive kind of synergy that they would really benefit from knowing each other.

Who are a couple of people in your social circle, maybe they havent been? Maybe if they met it’d be really special and maybe they would collaborate.

Zig Ziglar used to say you can get whatever you want when you help others, when you help enough people get what they want. Im pretty sure he was mostly was talking about Amway but the principle holds true for every part of life.

When he help others get what they want they will certainly want to help us. This is a part of establishing good karma, trying to be a pillar of a good society. Being something like a glue that holds society together.

A node even. And its something yes that absolutely we all have the power to do, we can bring people together.
