Jump Around

So many times in our lives, we might be enjoying the company of friends or family, chatting excitedly, eating or drinking. But we might not have the presence of mind to look around and notice those moments in which we are happy.

It doesn’t take a lot of effort, though it might take some presence of mind, to notice that we’re having a good time and even mention it to our companies, so they too can mark a happy moment in their memories.

Enjoy the good times.

Welcome beautiful thinkers.

Let’s talk about enjoying the good times.

There’s this speech, you look it up on Youtube from Kurt Vonnegut the esteemed author of books like Cat’s Cradle, which is the only one I’ve read> He wrote many science fiction stories and he has this explanation of his theory of his way of breaking down stories in terms of fortune and misfortune.

Sometimes stories start out well and they go bad or this kind of thing.

Anyway end of the speech he says “every speech I always like to end on this note, to notice the good times.”

So many times things might be good, there might be times where we might not even think twice about them. We might be out with our friends having a beer or whatever it is, chilling by the pool or hanging out by the park and feeling sunshine.

We might not think twice or have the inclination to say hey this is really good. This is life, this is what things are all about. This is something worthy of recognition and we can be grateful for those moments.

Because maybe one day we’re gonna have looked back on those moments and think “why didn’t I appreciate that more?”

We all have that opportunity even if you’re just sitting in a cafe peacefully or enjoying a coffee or breakfast on your own in the kitchen with the sun shining through the window.

Enjoying your youth, maybe you still have the vitality to run, jump, play, hop and do sit-ups. So many things to notice and be grateful for.

Vonnegut says a a relative of his would often raise a glass like “If this ain’t living, I don’t know what is.”

Or likewise my namesake, Dave Robinson, his uncle would raise a glass and put the steak on the barbecue, sit down to eat helpings of potato salad and everything and he’d say “Well, it doesn’t get much better than this boys.”

Those are the moments you can stop to notice. If you wanna raise a glass, say a toast and a few necessary words, a few kind words, words of gratitude or perhaps you leave your family saying grace so you can notice what’s going on in that moment and breathe it all in, seriously, seriously, enjoy something good.
