Feel the Body
In Darwin Grajales’ song Échale el miedo al fuego, he tells us that “Our grandparents have told us that they’ve given us an instrument – that your body is so sacred, just like water, just like fire. They’ve urged us to let it vibrate, that love gives us the power to do it, to open more our hearts and never forget to sing.”
In a session of yoga, or while hiking, or while lifting weights in the gym, we might remember those words.
We stretch our bodies, perhaps into positions that they haven’t found since we were children. We become aware of different muscles and tendons, breathing life into them. We might even push ourselves to the limit, overcoming our limiting beliefs about what our bodies are capable of… Showing the highest level of gratitude for what has been given to us.
That is how we exercise our sacred instruments, our bodies.

Let’s talk about feeling your body.
I was thinking today in the middle of a Yoga session with instructor Luis Alberto in Guadalajara. I remembered this verse from the poet singer songwriter:
Han dicho los abuelos que te han dado un instrumento que tu cuerpo es tan sangrado como el agua y como el fuego que lo pongas a vibrar, que el amor te da esa fuerza que abras mas tu corazón y nunca olvides de cantar
It goes like this the grandfathers, our grandfathers have said they have given you an instrument that your body is sacred just like water, just like fire. That you put it to vibrate that love gives us that power that you open your heart a little more and never forget to sing.
Thinking about this, your body is a sacred instrument. As sacred as water or as sacred as fire. Thinking about that in the middle of this yoga session bringing my legs to one side to put the spine in different positions aligning it or twisting it to create more flexibility. Stretching the ligaments of the thighs and hamstrings in order to explore our bodies.
Luis kept saying to me today find different parts of our body, explore our bodies because yes we have this grand tool that is like physical representation of our soul or if you’re a skeptical atheist this is our soul. If you’re a skeptical atheist the most holy part of your being must be your body.
So what a grand gift all this complexity of brain of vicersera, kidneys, brain lungs, stomach, appendix. All this complexity of ligaments and muscles working together to get us around this world to enable us to imagine and put into movement our imaginations finding different ways of doing the same things. Finding new things and inventing new goals people had never thought of before.
Feel it now in our knees, in our calves, in our thighs, in our trunks, we can be grateful for our bodies everything they allow us to do. Be aware of those little voices that tell us maybe something isn’t right.
Something needs to be corrected. Something needs attention or perhaps even proaction to bring ourselves into a greater level of help than we have ever experienced before using these techniques like yoga, fasting, weight lifting, hiking, breathing fresh air.
Seeking out those experiences are good for our bodies. And our bodies know they are good although at first they might experience some resistance. Our bodies know, they reward us, those feelings of dopamine and endorphins. Peace, enjoyment, joy and tenderness.
Thanks to our bodies, thanks to those feelings in our bodies.
