Greater Spiritual Development

by | Jun 24, 2021 | short episodes | 0 comments

In the Catholic tradition, there are three types of prayer: praise, gratitude and petition. When we put ourselves to prayer for petition, we might ask for something specific, or something a little more vague.

The truth is, we don’t always know what we want, or what is best for us, but some deeper part of us often does. If we ask for something unspecified and good, we might receive something better than what we could have imagined.

When we pray for greater spiritual development, we might receive more faith, more humility, more wisdom, more insight, or a kinder heart.

Perhaps we will start to see more clearly the good that is in others, and be inspired by it. Perhaps the good within us will shine so brightly that it inspires others. That might seem a lofty goal, but when we set our sights high we just might achieve it.

Welcome beautiful thinkers.

I am still here in Santiago de Queretaro. I came for a spiritual journey which is being successful.

I have been thinking about greater spiritual development so I got up early to prepare today’s podcast so Lily can publish it and went back to bed and started to pray, praying for greater spiritual development.

Now it’s interesting because I don’t really know what that means. Sometimes we can’t know what something means in advance but that doesn’t prevent us from asking for it when we make this kind of petition.

We can actually surrender ourselves to something greater, something unexpected. We can ask ourselves what might it mean to have greater spiritual development?

Maybe it means greater faith. Maybe it means a feeling of purity that our entire body surrounded by light, made of light. Maybe it means other people will notice the radiance, not in a showing or cheap way. Not like peacocking. Not showing something superficial.

But that our purity shines out so brightly that other people will notice and appreciate it. Even as it says in the hymn “guru light my light with your light”.

So that we shine as a beacon and this lantern providing that holy flame for others so they can see what it really means to be spiritual to be the embodiment of the divine on this Earth.

Now that sounds like a lofty goal. Some high aspiration but why not? Why not aim high? Why not aim for those incredible heights, heights previously unimaginable because we allow ourselves to surrender to that great mystery, that great wonder, that fantastic highest of high aspirations that may just give us something previously unseen.

We pray that spiritual development.
