Episode 186

Just Enjoy the Show

The movie “Moneyball” is a story about a couple of visionary men who have the determination and courage to change the sport of baseball in the US. From another perspective, it’s a story about Billy Beane trying to let go of his autoexigence, and embrace the idea that he is enough.

In a couple of scenes, Beane is with his daughter buying her a guitar and asking her to sing. The song teases her dad, but also has a key message for him: “Just enjoy the show.”

Sometimes life can move quickly, sometimes there is a lot of stimulation, even confusion. We might not know where we’re heading in a taxi, and we don’t even want to think about where we’re going in life. In those moments we might relax, sink into ourselves, take Ms. Beane’s advice, and simply enjoy the show.

Welcome beautiful thinkers.

Id like to talk to you about just enjoying the show.

I was thinking again about this movie, love this movie Moneyball with Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill.

This film, you might know it. If you don’t I recommend it.

It’s a film about baseball, I don’t know much about baseball but in a sense it’s about one man Billy Bean and Peter brand who have this vision on how they can play baseball in a very different way and how they can arrange a team.

And they ended up changing the whole sport in a sense, it’s this kind of Fountainhead or Atlas Shrugged style story about one or two people with a vision. The power of the individual.

But from another perspective it’s also this story about a man trying to let go of his autoexigente or demanding of himself.

What happens toward the conclusion of the film is Billy Bean achieves so much and is still disappointed and goes to see his companion and Brand shows him this video of a certain ball player who knocked this crazy hit and ran to the first base, slid right onto it. Worried that they were going to catch him out and thinking he had striken out.

Actually when he stopped and looked around he realized he had knocked it right out of the park.

He hit a home run and had no idea.

At one point in the movie, Billy Bean is with his daughter buying her a guitar or something. He asks “Would you like to sing a song for your dad?”

And she sings this song and there’s one clear lyric that sticks out: Just enjoy the show

This is this message from the mouth of a babe, innocent message to her dad that maybe he doesn’t need to try so hard.

I think about this a lot when I’m trying to get into a taxi or something. Maybe I start to think is he taking me the right way? Where am I going in life with all these cars and buildings flying past?

I think of those lyrics, just enjoy the show.\

Things are happening, strange things, powerful things and incredible things. Mindblowing things, ordinary things, things we have seen so many times before and maybe its just all happening, just a show just for us. All we have to do is relax and just enjoy the show.

There’s no pressure.

Like when we sit in meditation sometimes we have a lot of thoughts going on in our mind and we try so hard to stop those thoughts.

What if just for a moment we don’t try to stop them, we don’t try to do anything.

Just enjoy the show, it’s for you, after all.

Thank you for listening. Thank you for enjoying the show.
