Learn the Trade

Welcome beautiful thinkers! I’d like to talk to you about the idea of learning the trade.

So, I remember a reading, many, many years ago, there was a book of “Fatherly Advice” that a father had written for his son as he was graduating college, or something similar.

And he wrote in his book, “learn the trade, don’t worry yourself about the tricks of the trade, learn the trade”.

So, I still think about that and I’ve noticed how true that is, because I noticed sometimes there are certain people who will strategyze.

Not that there is anything wrong with strategyzing of itself, but trying to control every little thing, when you notice somebody who is trying to control every little thing.

Sometimes these people lack scruples, so they try to find a way to success, not through the fundamentals, but through, perhaps the superficial aspects through things like perception management, through marketing, trying to sell something that might not be essentially a good product.

But if you work on the good product, you come up with something good, if you work on your scruples, you don’t have to worry so much about your reputation, because people will know what kind of person you are and they will want to help you.

And you won’t need to awake at night wondering if something is gonna come crashing down around you, if some person is going to do the thing that you hadn’t accounted for in your chest plan ten moves ahead scheme of life.

You won’t have to worry about that, you won’t have to worry about tomorrow because you are holding faith in your heart, and you know that things are gonna work out, as long as you do what you can to be good.

If you learn the fundamentals, learn the trade.

And, you know? This two men might, in the end, wind up with the same fate. Perhaps their business will fail, perhaps, you know? It happens.

And eventually, of course, they’ll both end up in the ground and their flash will turn to dirt, and their bones will turn to dust. One was happy, while he could be, maybe that’s the difference.
