Simply Noticing

Any ordinary process that we go through in our days can be used as an object of meditation, for example, drinking a glass of water.

Picking up the glass, we can feel its coolness or wetness. We notice the sensation of the glass against our lips, the water entering the mouth, the sensations in our throat.

Allowing these things to appear in our consciousness doesn’t require any effort; they simply are.

Now we might notice what is happening inside of us, our presence, our calm or discomfort. We might have avoided looking at these things, but here they are, again effortless and ready to present themselves.

Welcome beautiful thinkers, I’m still out here in just about in the jungle in Chiapas in this municipality of La Concordia.

Id like to talk about simply noticing. Let’s say you’re sitting at a table and you have a glass of water in front of you.

You might exercise your awareness, your mindfulness focusing on your body and the sensations as you drink that glass of water. Focusing on picking up the water, the weight as it moves towards your mouth. Sensations in fingers and movements of your arm in your muscles towards your mouth and you feel the glass touch your lips and the water enter your mouth.

If you focus a little more you feel the water moving within your mouth and you notice which parts of your mouth the water is entering and which it is not. As you swallow you notice how the water moves down your throat.

With a little more presence you might even notice some internal processes. You notice how the water slides down your esophagus, you notice how it begins to enter your digestive system. You might feel the coolness of it.

Now as you follow this process there is one thing you will probably not find and that is judgement or any grasping. You aren’t trying to do this, you aren’t trying to notice. These things appear in your consciousness. There they are and you are ready to receive them.

Likewise in this moment if there is any sensation in your belly, discomfort or even any comfort. Any deeper peace, feeling of energy, relaxation and calm and that subtle vibration of your being that is always with you. You don’t need to grasp to have access, all you need to do is be open simply noticing.
