The Thought Buffet

by | Jun 17, 2021 | short episodes | 0 comments

In one chapter of You Can Heal Your Life, Louise Hay invites us to imagine a grand buffet of all kinds of thoughts. Just like with food, some thoughts will cause us pain, and some thoughts will provide nourishment, enabling us greater health and joy.

In the Buddhist tradition, it is said that we have only three tools on Earth: our internal processes being thoughts and feelings, our speech, and our actions. Our thoughts, just like speech and action, can be a source of future karma. The way we think guides our speech and action, and, according to some, our very thoughts affect the universe.

We always have the choice to be clean and clear with our mental processes, just as we can be with our house. Practicing mental hygiene, being careful with what we allow in our heads, encouraging ourselves and loving ourselves, we can live our best lives.

Welcome beautiful thinkers.

Let’s talk about The Thought Buffet.

I’m reading this book called You Can Heal Your Life by Louise L Hay and I found this book in a tianguis in Guadalajara.

It’s in Spanish but I’m going to read out a passage and translate it as I go.

Imagine yourself standing in a line in a cafeteria or buffet in a luxurious hotel. Where there are dishes of thoughts instead of dishes of food.

You may use any of these plates and any of the thoughts that you desire, these thoughts will create your future experiences.

This is a key theme of the book, it’s not exactly like secret or the from Napoleon Hill’s books but it is pretty similar.

She is talking about how the way you think affects your life. The way you think of course affects your actions and affects how you think about other people, judge other people or affect other people. What kind of other people you allow into your life and what kind of people you attract.

If you read Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiosaki. In many ways he is a very grounded man but he also talks about this principle he says what if someone thinks money is bad. I don’t like money and would prefer it not exist.

There is no surprise that at the end of the month the person comes up short on their bills because they are actively repelling money. They are trying to remove money from their lives because they don’t like it.

On the other hand if you have someone who says “I like money, money is abundance, I deserve it and actively look for ways to receive money in ways that is mutually beneficial with other people.”

That person is going to have a very different experience, maybe not within that month but over the long term of maybe 5 to ten years.

If that person continues thinking that way, they are going to have a very different experience.

That’s the opportunity that we all have standing there in the luxurious Las Vegas buffet at the Rio, you don’t even have to pay for this.

All the thoughts are available, it’s up to you. If you notice your own thought patterns, being aware and conscious of what is going on through your head.

As Echart Tolle says some of those tapes have been playing for many years and right now you have the opportunity to find out what they are saying.

What they are saying might lead to a problem that you have the opportunity to play a new tape, select a new dish and select something else which might be your companion for many years or even the rest of your life.

For as long as it serves you, you can choose a thought, you can choose how to think about yourself.

As Louise Hay says you can look in the mirror and say “Hey you are marvelous, I love you. I enjoy spending time with you and you enjoy good things in this life.

You can choose to think that way, you can choose when there is a struggle. Maybe there is something interesting about this, maybe there’s something to learn here. Maybe I can experience gratitude for this adverse event because perhaps this will work out for the best even if it doesn’t seem like it in the moment.

So many things happen to us and later on we can be grateful for them because we can choose to be grateful for them in the moment as we experience them. Wouldn’t that be nice?

That’s what I would like you to do. Walk up to your buffet and start choosing new fresh delicious dishes that will become your sustenance, that will keep you fed.
