Episode 112

What’s In Store

Once you make the decision to improve yourself continually, in whatever small way, you can know that soon enough, there will be no limit to your growth. There is no limit to how wonderful things can become.

We might even call it “karma”… the natural cause and effect over the long term.
Following the instruction of a true guru, at first you might be skeptical. The things she is telling you seem unbelievable… But then you follow her direction, and learn that yes, she was correct. Eventually, you might wonder why you’re even spending the energy to question, when your guru has been right so many times.

Finally, we know… All we have to do is continue on the path, and we will achieve liberation.

Welcome beautiful thinkers, I want to talk about what’s in store.

I was thinking about when I was 18 or 19 and I was unemployed.

I didn’t have a whole lot going for me living with my parents and I remember thinking “Ok, I’ve got to do at least the basics, at least a few things every day and I’ll feel good, like I’m moving forward.”

And I would do like 10 push-ups and write 4 lines of poetry or songs and that was more or less enough for me to think “Ok, I’m moving forward.”

And then a couple of years later when I started to get more into personal development stuff I remember this moment quite clearly, I was ascending the staircase to my friends house and I thought “You know what, I’m on a good path. I’m improving myself even if its these tiny bits, if I keep going there is no limit of what can happen. There is no limit of how wonderful things can become.”

I saw it so clearly in that moment and I was elated. And I was right. Things got better and better and better even though it was just slow going, slow moving. I saw the trajectory, sometimes we call this karma, the natural cause and effect. Actions and attitudes that we have, have their effects especially over the long term.

I was talking to my friend Link, he’s in the ashram in New York state practicing under his guru Gurumayi Chidvilasananda and he said to me something about “I know what’s going to happen, I know eventually I will achieve liberation or enlightenment”.

I said “You seem so certain, how can you be so certain?”

He said “Well, I have received Shaktipat or we have received Shaktipat and Guru has told me what will happen.”

Shaktipat is when an initiate receives the energy of the guru, he underwent that years ago. I just did about a hear and a half ago.

Gurumayi Chidvilasananda keeps telling me these things. When you question the Guru to begin with like “Can that really be so? Can be the way things are? Is that what’s in store for me?”

You question it but then you do it because you do have some trust in the Guru and you find that what your Guru said was accurate. Things happen and after this happens 5 or 10 times you ask “Why am I questioning? Seems like a waste of mental energy?”

Of course we have to be discerning with our gurus but that’s what’s happening I think.

It’s kind of nice, kind of simple because Link got to that stage where he had that faith in his Guru and all he needs to do is continue on that path and he knows what will happen as a result.

I’m starting to see that too as clearly as Link saw it because I’m starting to see that in my own practice, beginning to let go of certain things and desires, becoming aware of my own motivations. Previously they were unconscious. Before we saw in part, now we know fully – even as we are fully known.

So what happens when you begin your practice slowly, maybe not so consistently at first and later consistently and later a bit more quickly.

And you let go of these things, of attachment to your memories. You don’t have to identify so strongly with what once was. Now you see, you can guess reasonably what is in store for us.

Thank you for listening, have a wonderful day.
