Episode 356

Being in Nature

Most of humanity lives in cities, and we might not even notice how unnatural that is until we get out into nature and feel the grass between our toes.

There is nothing quite like the feeling of being surrounded by the jungle or forest, and the longer we spend in nature, the more we realize that we are a part of it.

Today you might notice a tree or bush, or butterfly, and recognize that it is alive, and that it is your peer on this earth.

Welcome beautiful thinkers, I’d like to talk to you about being in nature.

So here I am in Chiapas in a very remote location.

A few days ago I flew to Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, Chiapas. And I cut off actually had a few detours along the way as happens sometimes when traveling.

My companions told me the place was close to a town called Independencia and from there I should go to Paraiso. When I saw Independencia, 2.5 hours away, pretty close to what they told me and onwards from there.

I went on a bus in that direction towards Comitán. As it turns out, I don’t know, there are 5-10-20 different locations in Chiapas called Independencia or La Independencia.

When I got off the bus in Comitán I said to the restauranteur at the chicken place and he said “Oh yeah, I can think of a few places around here that are called Independencia. There’s one just 5 minutes down the road.

What happens when we are traveling sometimes and things go a little wrong so we don’t need to to let these things dissuade us from thinking that the journey is going well.

Because sometimes these detours are important parts of the journey.

Then what happens is I returned to Tuxtla and the next day set off again in the correct direction taking a special shuttle taxi to Independencia then onwards to Nuevo Paraiso then on a Moto taxi tuktuk here to this property that belongs to a community of Inlakesh its called La Esperanza.

Here I am surrounded by nature, thick almost jungle. All types of plants and animals I have never seen before in my life. Trees just bearing fruits and they just fall down, you can pick straight off the ground and start eating if you know the right ones.

Its amazing to be in a place so green. I remember the first time I came here to Chiapas to asdasdas. After my return I said it’s green, its so green. It was around the end of the wet season.

I said its so green, its greener than Ireland. Its that green.

Impressive green.

I have read some articles that suggest that the appearance of the color green alone in our lives is enough to inspire some wellbeing.

Of course part of that is our relationship, our ancestral relationship with being in nature, seeing plants around us. So much the better if they are real plants producing oxygen for us working together in a symbiotic mutual relationship so we can enjoy this fresh air and its wonderful.

If you are in a city where there are green spaces what a blessing because not every city has that. Some are overly industrial.

If you can enjoy that kind of thing its a opportunity maybe every day you pass a park.

There are some wonderful parks in Melbourne, Treasury Gardens and Fitzroy gardens and you go walking and see possums at night climbing the trees.

Right now in front of me I see an orange or black butterfly. Not sure its a monarch because there are a lot of different kinds of butterflies here but similar color themes.

I am trying to get a good look at it but it’s moving all over the place.

These are the kinds of experiences we can have when we are in nature. This beautiful chaos surrounding us so we can feel as I mentioned in previous episodes it seems that people that are used to chaotic environments are much more chill. Much more aware of their bodies and things don’t bother them because they know, they somehow understand the essential nature of the world.

This turmoil and chaos, this never ending enigma that surrounds and envelops us. That is us. We can experience that whenever we are in nature.
