The Call of Senegal with Nathan Fallou Part 3

by | Nov 5, 2021 | interviews, podcast | 0 comments

Nathan Fallou traveled from Europe to Senegal to try to get an authentic experience, to understand the music and dance traditions such as Sabar, to speak the native language of Wolof and know the hearts of the people.

He ended up collaborating with world-renowned master percussionist Doudou Ndiaye Rose, forming a festival called Deggi Daaj to celebrate Doudou’s talent and legacy.

Even though Doudou was recognized as living human treasure by UNESCO in 2006, in his own country it was difficult for his team to even get a meeting with the Senegalese Ministry of Culture. That changed with the persistence and determination of Nathan Fallou, and in the fourth and final year of Deggi Daaj, the Ministry of Culture even decided to come and show their support for Master Doudou

After that, it seemed that Doudou’s mission on this earth was complete. You can hear more about the circumstances describing Doudou’s departure in this interview.
