Have A Good Time

In recent years we’ve seen a lot of chaos in the world, a lot of panic, fear and confusion.

Many people have lost friendships, because they realized with shock that their friends had very different values to them. Instead of valuing research, discernment, and companionship, they valued compliance.

Some people managed to maintain their calm and wish others health, even if they disagreed. Perhaps we can even go one step beyond, and have a good time – no matter how crazy the world gets.

Welcome, beautiful thinkers!

This is A Beautiful Thought.

This is how your life is already wonderful.

I was thinking about this phrase, “have a good time.” So, a couple of years ago, there was an event which I’m sure we’re all familiar with. Some people call it a pandemic.

I’m not entirely sure about the accuracy of that epithet.

However, when it happened, I was in Paraguay.

So maybe you’re already aware, I’m a resident of Paraguay. I was living there for about nine months or a year.

And when this strangeness started, when this mass hysteria began, they started to implement curfews and other restrictions in Paraguay.

And I thought, well, I don’t like the sound of this at all.

Paraguay is a country relatively recently exited from a tyrannical dictatorship, I think about 40 years ago.

And not many people seem to be aware of the connection between these two things.

And I said, Okay, well, I know where I want to be. If the world is ending. I want to be in Mexico.

I had a flight booked for April. But I was like, “Hmm.” They started to shut down the borders, partial shutdowns of the borders and then later more complete shutdowns of the borders. And it’s not like there’s a lot of flights that go to Asunción.

Actually, it’s kind of curious because there is one flight they had.

It goes from Córdoba to Asunción. On route to Madrid.

Sounds like you get off in the middle of the flight.

Just to say hi to Asunción on and then fly on.

Anyway, I was exiting Paraguay.

I booked this flight for March.

Not sure if my April flying would come through.

And flying to Panama, on route to Mexico City.

The end of the flight, we’re getting off at Panama City.

And I hear this, this fellow is speaking German. I think he was speaking German. I think he had a German accent.

I started chatting to him and his wife as we were leaving the airplane. And when he said he was Canadian, I imagine he might actually be of the Mennonite tradition.

Because that’s the conclusion that I draw, being at once Canadian speaking German, and visiting Paraguay.

There’s a lot of Mennonites in Paraguay, in the, the area of the country, they call El Chaco.

And anyway, I was having a little chat to him. And he said, “Oh, you know, when when we get to the United States, I would be more comfortable. I’ll be more relaxed because we’re almost home.” And I said, “oh, goodness, that’s great.”

As he was leaving the plane, I said to him, “Hey, you know, take care. I hope you’re well.”

And he said to me something that I always remember, he simply said that phrase, “Have a good time. You’re going to Mexico, have a good time.”

And I thought about that later. Here. I was wishing him health. Wishing his family health and he went one step beyond.

He was not too worried about the hysteria or what was changing in the world.

Or maybe he knew about the threat. So, maybe he saw right through them. I don’t know. I can’t say exactly what was on his mind.

But he had that priority.

“Have a good time.”

Of course, that would be the most important thing.

Of course, that’s even beyond health. You know? If you have health or not, I guess if you have a good time, then it counts.

Maybe we shouldn’t just settle for health, or just tolerating our circumstances.

Merely getting by in life?

Why not?

Let’s do this, right.

We’re going to be here, on Earth, living our lives.

Let’s have a good time.
