Rational Faith

Let’s talk about rational faith.

I’ve told this story before about my friend Link talking to his guru and so many times he would question her. She would tell you are going to do this, and this. Follow this path and maintain this discipline and this is what’s going to happen and sometimes there would be quite unusual circumstances she was describing.

These spiritual experiences with a physical element, he would question like is that for real? How will that happen but he had enough faith in the guru that he would follow her advice and the practice and continued with it and after some months and years he found yes it does work that way. It’s true.

But then it would happen again.

She’d give him more advice, he’d follow it or he would question at first and follow it. Eventually he found what she says is so true even though it seems bizarre or unusual, when talking about these kinds of things described in play of conciousness by Baba Muktananda and Baba Muktananda describes very unusual things like sitting in the lotus position meditating and spontaneously the body jumping about on the floor like he were a rabbit or the slightest breeze could blow him around the room because he had become so light from meditation or these sorts of bizarre experiences.

Wait that’s not from that, that’s probably from the Hatha Yoga Pradipika but these class of very unusual experience.

But the point was after awhile Link said Ok I’m not going to question anymore. I’ve seen that my guru has proven herself honest. She is a fasdasd guru, a true guru. That her word is honest and her experiences are accurate. So I will assume that what you’re saying is accurate.

The point of this story is that at a certain point it does become rational to move into faith. Link did have a certain amount of faith in his guru because he was willing to follow her advice.

And then at a certain point he decided to go all in.

Now looking back at our own experiences, I think I’ve asked you this before, how many times have you believed that you could not do a thing then months or years later after practice you found that you could.

I always remember the example of saying I’ll never be able to freestyle or improvise lives. Now I can after some years with some proficiency.

So perhaps you can go and I invite you to look through your own experiences and find examples where you believed you couldn’t handle something.

Perhaps you perceived that all was lost, all was desperate. That it was over, that your life was done. Perhaps it was that severe and extreme. Then you found a way in the right moment you move forward, then you drew from that limitless bottomless well within you.

That resource you didn’t know you had you discovered.

How many times would it take for you to reach that point to say I guess I will trust, I guess I will give up questioning. We can convince ourselves of these things on a rational logical level by analyzing our own experiences. At some point evidence is unneccessary because we simply believe.

Thank you for exploring your own experiences, looking at the power you didn’t realize you had that you maybe even tried to hide from. Thank you for projecting into the future and acknowledging that strength that you have encountered so many times within yourself might help you to overcome future and present obstacles.
